چکیده

In this paper we study parameterization as a tool for both constructing and smoothing spatial triangulations. Most of the parameterization methods we study are based on convex combination maps, which have the property that the image of each interior vertex is a convex combination of its neighbours. When mapping an existing triangulation, this latter property ensures that whenever the image of the map is convex, the map is one-to-one, and thus a homeomorphism. At the same time, convex combination maps are very general because every one-to-one piecewise linear map is a convex combination map. Suitable convex combination maps for parameterization arise naturally as discretizations of harmonic maps, but can also be constructed explicitly, in order to satisfy important properties such as linear precision.

A Genetic Approach to Detect Boundaries for Meshless Parameterization and Surface Reconstruction

In this paper we present a boundary detection algorithm for unorganized point sets and apply it for surface reconstruction using the meshless parameterization method from M. S. Floater and M. Reimers, Meshless parameterization and surface reconstruction, Comp. Aided Geom. Design, 18:77-92, 2001. The algorithm consists of two steps. Under mild assumptions, we can prove that the first step of our...

Spanning Tree Seams for Reducing Parameterization Distortion of Triangulated Surfaces (figures 4, 5, and 6)

Providing a two-dimensional parameterization of threedimensional tesselated surfaces is beneficial to many applications in computer graphics, finite-element surface meshing, surface reconstruction and other areas. The applicability of the parameterization depends on how well it preserves the surface metric structures (angles, distances, areas). For a general surface there is no mapping which fu...

Mesh reconstruction by meshless denoising and parameterization

We present a new approach to simultaneously denoise and parameterize unorganized point cloud data. This is achieved by minimizing an appropriate energy function defined on the point cloud and its parameterization. An iterative algorithm to minimize the energy is described. The key ingredient of our approach is an “as-rigid-as-possible” meshless parameterization to map a point cloud with disk to...

Learning quadrangulated patches for 3D shape parameterization and completion

We propose a novel 3D shape parameterization by surface patches, that are oriented by 3D mesh quadrangulation of the shape. By encoding 3D surface detail on local patches, we learn a patch dictionary that identifies principal surface features of the shape. Unlike previous methods, we are able to encode surface patches of variable size as determined by the user. We propose novel methods for dict...

Shape analysis of left ventricle using spherical harmonics functions

This paper presents an approach for the parameterization of 3D triangular mesh surfaces of spherical topology objects. Our approach is decomposed in two steps. The first step consists in parameterizing the surface by defining a continuous one-to-one mapping from the surface of the object to the surface of a unit sphere [10]. The optimization of initial parameterization is formulated as a constr...

WUCSE-2006-29: Smooth Surface Reconstruction using Charts for Medical Data

We present a surface reconstruction technique that constructs a smooth, Ck, analytic surface from scattered data. The technique is robust to noise and both poorly and non-uniformly sampled data, making it well-suited for use in medical applications. In addition, the surface can be parameterized in multiple ways, making it possible to represent additional data, such as electromagnetic potential,...
